The Best 3 Brands to Color Hair

This post has been a long time coming. Everytime I color my hair, I receive messages and comments on how amazing my hair looks and that I should do a tutorial. Even in person, when they asked who did my hair and I tell them “I did” they are surprised because how an awesome job it came out. Hopefully they ment it!

Although I am camera shy, so no tutorial, but if you know me in person I can be a loud mouth and laugh at the stupiest things ever……

Well, I am finally going to tell you which products I use and which ones I absoulutely love! Yes, I am a cosmetologist so most of the products I use you can not purchase unless you’re licensed.

So let me tell you why I decided to color me hair!

I live in Sacramento, Ca and since it is the capital and the most amazing place ever, (*cough *cough) no really, I absolutely love Sacramento but somethings are just not good here. Like a hairstylist for example: I do not know how many stylist I went to and they just do not listen on how I want my hair or they just did a crappy job and expect me to pay them a lot of money.

I know how hard they work, how much the products cost, etc. but if you do not know how to treat a client or can not do a certain style/color  just be real and say that you can’t. With that said, I have a hard time finding one but praying one day I do, it would be great to just relax and someone else does the work for a change. So I just do my own hair, purchase my own products at Salon Centric or Cosmoprof (sometimes). I even cut my own hair and it comes out perfect!

Sorry if I am rambling a bit but I just want to make sure you know where I stand.

Okay, now to the good stuff!!

Let me take you on a little journey to my colored years…..

I had my purple hair probably for about a year and a half. I absolutely love it! I am not really sure why, purple is not even a favorite color of mine but I think my skintone made it look amazing.

My family and friends loved this color on me. I also did, but I kind of loved the purple more. My hair was this color probably for about a year or so.

This color was also one of my favorites!

I did not have it for that long because it was so hard to maintain. It would fade really fast, had to tone it like all the time and it will turn green every so often. I spent so much money on products that this color only lasted for a few months.

I love, love, love pravana!

Like hands down this is my all time favorite hair color. Not just the Vivids and Pastels but the whole color line. If someone wanted their hair dyed, I use this brand. The colors are just so vibrant and long lasting. Plus I love how they make my hair feel after I use it. If you’re a hairstylist and haven’t tried Pravana, I totally recommend it!

This brand is what I used when I colored the purple, blue, and silver. I also used it when I first colored my hair pink and rose gold but sadly I do not have photos for those for some reason.

You do have to be licensed to purchase this brand but you can buy off You will just pay more.

(*Paraben-Free *Zero Phthalates *No animal testing *Free from MEA and DEA

*EPA and CARB compliant)

For this style, the brand I used is called PulpRiot. Since I was new to this brand I only bought 1 bottle and at that time I had long hair so you can tell It didn’t stretch but it still came out amazing! I even mix it with Pravana pastels in Coral. I am not sure if you are suppose to mix brands but I do! (shhhh…) That’s the best part about being creative, there are no rules!

Once I used Pulp Riot, I actually fell in love!

This was the type of pink I’ve been dreaming of! I honestly love it better then the Pravana pastel pink, it was so light that it just blend into my blonde and you couldn’t even see the pink tone. Although I do love Pravana , Pulp Riot did it for me, as you can see in the photo how gorgeous it looked. This one topped it. Plus it is Vegan, which is a must!

Yes, you do have to be a professional to purchase it.  You can still purchase through this link here.

(*cruelty-free *Free of gluten, ammonia, parabens, PPD and MEA)

I had been dying to try this brand!

I was in desperate need to color my hair. It was Monday, and I was on my way to Salon Centric to purchase the Pulp Riot Blush because my roots where so bad (still is) and I didn’t have time to bleach my hair since the next day I was heading to Disneyland. I had totally forgot that is closed on Mondays, my days are always off…

So I just decided to head to Hot Topic so I can finally try Kristen Leanne’s brand.

I am going to tell you that this color is so pigmented and vibrant that I purchased 3 bottles because that’s how many I always use and I only ended up using 1.

I was trying to get the same pastel pink that I had before but holy cow! It just did not happened.

I diluted the color with like so much conditioner and it still came out so vibrant. Can you say pigmented AF! Arctic Fox is definitely worth it! Although it is a little pricey compare to how much I regularly pay for hair color. You do get more use out of it. You can purchase the brand here.

I am still getting used to the color, even though it is not that vibrant, I am loving the color it is fading into.

So, would I use this brand again, of course! Next on my list is periwrinkle.

Oh and did I mention that it’s vegan!

Great post. How would hair dye affect previously chemically treated hair? Like if you have a perm or relaxer, will dye dry it out too much?

You should be fine. Just don’t do a relaxer or hair color treatment at the same time. =)

Any color fits you. But love the purple. Granted, I may be biased because purple is favorite color.
